4th November 2010
Chancellor announces launch of the Renewable Heat Incentive.
Refurbishment complete of dedicated wood pellet storage and distribution depot near Penrith.
I wanted to let you know two pieces of news concerning Billington Biofuels.
Firstly I am sure you will probably be aware that one of the few positive announcements from the Chancellor in his Comprehensive Spending Review was his confirmation that the government will be launching the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) next year.
This is a £860m scheme designed to support the usage of renewable heating systems, and offers the opportunity for new installations to use renewable energy competitively against fossil fuels - giving both financial savings and environmental benefits.
The funding announced for the overall scheme is about 20% less than that originally outlined in the Consultation published in February, and we do not expect the exact details of the scheme to be announced until early next year. This uncertainty still makes it difficult for customers and installers to make decisions in the meantime - but it is hugely encouraging that this support is coming in due course.
Once these details are announced, we will let you know what the final implications are.
Secondly, Billington Biofuels is pleased to announce that it has completed its refurbishment of its dedicated wood pellet storage and distribution depot at Langwathby, near Penrith.
This site allows us to store wood pellets in bunkers and to hold sufficient stocks to meet our customer's needs during the coming winter. All pellets are inspected and tested on delivery as part of our Quality Assurance system. Pellets are double-screened and metal-detected before loading into our vehicles in a covered loading bay. Langwathby remains as a key distribution hub, with our vehicles accessing the whole of Northern England and South Scotland from there.
We are confident that this facility will allow us to source pellets of the highest quality, store them in the best possible conditions and then deliver them to customers to meet their precise requirements.
The next few months will be very exciting for the industry, and we are looking forward to the challenges to help grow and develop this marketplace.
If we can help you further in any way, please contact us.
Kind regards
Edward Billington
